Monthly Update - Month Thirty Two

Dec 29, 2008

This has been a very exciting month as it’s contained Christmas. This year Tom has been aware of everything that’s going on and got very excited about it all. The run up to Christmas was a bit tense, Tom has had a cold and being behaving naughtily, we’re not sure if it’s the cold, the medicine or the excitement – or a mixture of the three! Luckily now it’s past he’s much better behaved (touch wood). On Christmas day itself he was perfectly behaved, he even decided he’d like a nap at 3.00 – which we weren’t expecting. He loved getting ready for Christmas and putting out the mince pie, whisky and carrots. In the morning there was a stocking on the door handle from Father Christmas, we opened those presents in the big bed and then went downstairs to open the rest. There were many, many presents and opening them took all day, Thomas liked to open one, and then take it out and play with it before moving onto the next one. Which is nice, he got a chance to play with and enjoy all his presents on Christmas Day. His favourite presents seem to be a Rocket ship, a magnetic doodler and things for his Thomas trains. He also loves the chair we bought him from ikea to go in his room – it spins round and has a pull down hood.

Thomas’ favourite place at the moment is in his new room, he spends lots of time in there playing with his toys. He seems to like being in there and playing more than being downstairs most of the time. We’ve got a lot of his toys upstairs now, in fact until Christmas we didn’t have any toys in the front room at all (it’s full now of course). We’re going to get him a bed soon and I’m sure that will make being in there even more fun, although he can climb in and out of his cot quite easily – he hasn’t at nighttime yet though.

The favourite word this month is “actually” I think this comes from reading Charlie and Lola books and seeing them on tv. I was talking to him about his train set and he said “This is actually Daddys train set”, this is one example… he uses it at least once a day. Another word he uses is nearly, if he drops something or bumps himself he says “I nearly dropped my book” I’ve no idea where this has come from.

We went out for dinner with Mum and Dad the day before Christmas Eve, while I was changing Tom’s nappy he asked me not to turn the handdryer on. I said he’d never liked the noise even when he was in my tummy. He thought for a moment and said “Babies don’t come from tummies” so I asked where they came from and he said “babies come from Doncaster” in a very serious tone of voice – there was a hint of “don’t you know anything mummy” as well. I’ve no idea where he’s picked this up from… or even how he knows where or what Doncaster is!
