Yet another tour
Sep 19, 2005
Saturday was the BnD meeting day, it had been put back a week as several members went to the ringing road show. They try to do a “ringing ramble” once a year – normally in August. This year it was in September and round towers in North Lincolnshire. It was a good opportunity for some grabs, I got six grabs from seven towers in total which is pretty good – even Chris got five. So that takes me up to 40 grabs this year – I don’t think I’ll beat last year though! One of the towers, St Peters Barton upon Humber, isn’t available very often so it was good to get. The day was good fun, we got lost a few times but managed to get ourselves everywhere with time for a ring. I think next time we’ll have to remember the map!
Sunday ringing was interesting as the rope on the two started to disintegrate as I was ringing it. It’s very disconcerting to have large bits of rope fluff float past while you’re ringing a bell. I got Chris’ attention and he called them round and stood quicker than he was going to. When we took the rope off it had almost worn through. Chris has taken it too the ringing master of Beverley Minster who will hopefully be able to splice it for us before Tuesday. There was no ringing Sunday evening so we managed to get lots of work done on the house and garden. We also gave the bunnies a good run outside.
