Monthly Newsletter – Month Five

Sep 27, 2006

This year is really flying by, I can’t believe Christmas things are appearing in the shops already. We’re hoping to keep Tom away from all things Christmassy until At least the end of October, I doubt it will happen though.

Tom’s changed a lot again this month. His sitting up is really good, he can sit up perfectly when he’s sat on our knees but still tends to headbutt the ground when we sit him up on the floor, he spends a lot of time surrounded by cushions at the moment!

His hand control has been refined, he can pick up little things as well as big things now, and he usually manages to pick up anything that we don’t want him to. I seem to spend a lot of time moving things out of his reach and taking things off him, which seams mean but it’s for his own good.

Sleeping has taken a turn for the worse this month. Most nights he’s up at least three times. Some nights more. I think he may be getting ready for going on to solid food – I hope that will fix it but we’re still holding out for nearer to six months before we start him on that.

I’m loving this age, Tom’s wonderful. He is cheerful most of the time and loves spending time with people. He gets excited to see people and jumps and wiggles about. When I go in to him in the morning he can hardly contain himself he’s that excited to see me. He also lifts up his arm to be picked up when he’s on his stomach, which sometimes makes him fall over!

I’m trying to get into a routine. I think we’re about ready for one. Tom usually gets up at about 7.00 we play in the office till about 9.30 and then have a feed after that he goes to sleep for about 45 minutes. If we’re at Mums house she takes Tom down at 7 and lets me have a lie in (which is wonderful!) he’ll have a nap at about 9ish then have his feed afterwards. We usually manage to get a nap for him in the afternoon as well, between 4 and 5. The nighttime routine is something I need to work on, the plan is bath at 7, change, feed, story and bed at about 8. I don’t think that’s worked at all yet. It usually ends up me feeding him to sleep and carrying him up very carefully so I don’t wake him!
